This album is a collection of images I've taken on the island nation that is Cuba for The Boston Globe and The Washington Post. My first trip was in 1989, at the end of the Soviet era, when much was still under the tight control of the Cuban government. My last trip, in 1996, saw some unraveling of that control - from boat people in the Atlantic headed for American shores, to prostitutes back along the Malecon in Havana. During all of my trips, however, I attempted to show the dignity of the Cuban people and the hope they have for the future.
